SURU retrofits traditional joinery techniques with an edgy, twenty-first-century aesthetic. With unmatched stability, screws and hardware are largely made unnecessary to support the structure of the table due to precision notching and interlocking parts produced by CNC routing. Dowels that secure the leg posts to the frame of the table are painted white to call attention to their structural significance. The dark wood grains contrast with the stark white pieces in the table’s profile. Countertop overhangs are removed, and edges are flushed in order to show every detail present in the assembly of the table. The SURU table anchors a dining room with a bold and eye-catching design.

CAJON is a both a seat and a drum. The drummer sits on the box and creates rhythms by pounding and slapping the maple surfaces (tapas) beneath them. Slapping near the edges of the tapas produces short, sharp tones, while pounding near the center of the tapa creates bass notes of deeper and longer resonance. The purpose of this design was to create a slanted tapa so the player can stay near the top of the drum and play bass notes faster than reaching down a 90-degree angle edge. The size and scale and design of the cajon matches the height of the average chair. The bright and unique design on the drum surface was dye-sublimated, which is a process of melting colored ink at 495 degrees Fahrenheit onto maple wood grain.
